Vol. 67 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Erosion.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has received a memorial from the parish priest and other important residents of Courceys (Ballinspittal) drawing attention to the serious havoc caused by erosion on the foreshore at the White Strand (Old Head) and referring to orders made after an inquiry held in 1933 into the matter; and if he will state what steps he proposes to take to give effect to the wishes of the signatories to the memorial.

I have received the memorial referred to. So far as erosion at the White Strand, Old Head of Kinsale, is due to the removal of beach material, there is in existence a prohibitory order, dated 8th April, 1933, the enforcement of which is a matter for the local authority. So far as erosion is due to natural causes, I would refer the Deputy to the answer given to a question put by Deputy Corish on the 5th May, 1937, in which I indicated that I had no function in the matter.
