Vol. 69 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gárda Scales of Pay.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware of the discontent amongst the members of the Gárda force concerning their present scales of pay; whether any representations have been made to him in the matter, and whether he has in contemplation any proposals to remedy the grievances of which the Gárda complain.

I have received representations from the Gárda Síochána Representative Body on the subject of the pay of the members of the force. These representations are receiving consideration, the result of which will be conveyed to the Commissioner in due course.

Is the Minister aware that the same reply as that was given to me in this House over three months ago; does he consider that three months has not been sufficient time for his Department to consider a complaint and remove a grievance?

Arising out of the reply, can the Minister give us any idea as to when a decision will be arrived at?

At the moment I cannot say, but I should say it will be arrived at as quickly as possible.

Might I ask the Minister if he expects it will be before the next general election?
