Vol. 69 No. 3

Inter-Parliamentary Union—Deputy's Personal Explanation.

On yesterday Deputy Davin made certain statements as to my membership of the delegation representing the Inter-Parliamentary Union on behalf of Dáil Eireann. I venture to ask you, Sir, as leader of that delegation, to correct certain statements Deputy Davin made which were to the effect that (1) I was not a member of the delegation; (2) that I spoke at the Inter-Parliamentary Union without the sanction of the leader of the delegation or of the delegation itself.

On a point of explanation. I did not say that the Deputy spoke without sanction. These are not my words.

Deputy Dillon was a member of the Irish delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Paris. Technically he might have been called a supernumerary member, but he was none the less a member. He asked and got permission from me, as chief of the delegation, to speak at that conference.

I did not say he spoke without sanction and the Official Report will bear out my statement.
