Vol. 69 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Calculation of Blind Pensions.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is prepared to introduce proposals for legislation for the purpose of amending the law relating to the payment of blind persons' pensions so as to ensure that when calculating the rate of pension in each case grants made to blind persons under local welfare schemes will not be taken into account.

The matter is at present the subject of discussion between the Department of Local Government and Public Health and the Department of Finance.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say whether that discussion is likely to eventuate in proposals for legislation to remedy the present situation?

I am not in a position to indicate the possible outcome of the discussion.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary indicate when he hopes to be in a position to say so?

I cannot answer that question either.
