Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Certificates of Naturalisation.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the total number of persons who applied for and were granted certificates of naturalisation as citizens of Saorstát Eireann for the year ended 30th September, 1937, and the previous nationality of persons so admitted to citizenship.

The information required will be furnished in a tabular statement which will be published in the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

Total number of certificates of naturalisation issued during the year ended 30th September, 1937 — 44.

* These persons, who were originally of German Nationality, claimed to have become citizens of Saorstát Eireann under Article 3 of the Constitution, and Certficates of Naturalisation were issued to them under Section 6 of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1935, in order to remove doubts as to their title to Citizenship of Saorstát Eireann.
