Vol. 69 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grants Under Housing Act.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if deductions are made from grants allocated to persons for building houses under the Housing Act through utility societies or otherwise for the purpose of meeting engineering expenses; if so, what are the deductions made in each case, and if variable on what basis variations are made.

I am not aware of any deductions from housing grants for the purpose mentioned. Private persons or public utility societies that intend to erect dwelling-houses in a particular area with the aid of grants must submit plans to the appointed officer for that area. Under the Housing (New Houses) Order, 1932, such appointed officer may require applicants to pay him for his services a fee not exceeding £1 1s. (one guinea) for each type of house for which separate plans are submitted.
