Vol. 69 No. 8

Written Answers. - Acquisition of County Mayo Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Irish Land Commission intend to acquire for the relief of congestion in the neighbourhood the holdings of land the property of Reilly, deceased, and Mr. Chrisham, situate on the Browne estate at Brownstown, near Ballinrobe, in the County of Mayo, both of which have been offered for sale and have failed to find purchasers.

Mr. Boland

The question appears to refer to the lands of Brownstown or Downageaga, of which 34a. 1r. 10p. are in the occupation of Martin Hamrogue and 17a. 2r. 6p. are in the occupation of James Connor. The question as to whether action will be taken by the Land Commission for the acquisition of these lands has not yet been decided.

It is not possible from the particulars furnished to identify the holding of Mr. Chrisham referred to in the question. According to the records of the General Valuation Office Mr. Chrisham is not returned as the rated occupier for any lands in the townland of Brownstown.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that proceedings were started at least ten years ago for the acquisition of Treenacally farm at Hagfield, Charlestown, County Mayo, the property of Mr. Michael Brady, and if he will state the cause of the delay in acquiring these lands and when the lands are likely to be divided among the local uneconomic landholders.

Mr. Boland

As all objections to the acquisition of part of the lands of Treanacally or Hagfield the property of Michael Brady have now been settled, proceedings are in progress for their acquisition but at the present stage it is not possible to state when the lands will be divided.
