Vol. 69 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Labourers' Cottages in Louth.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (1) how many labourers' cottages were built by the County Louth Board of Health and Public Assistance from 1922 to 1931 inclusive; and (2) how many labourers' cottages were built by the County Louth Board of Health and Public Assistance each year from 1932 to 1936, inclusive.

No labourers' cottages were built by the County Louth Board of Health and Public Assistance during the period from 1922 to 1931, inclusive.

As regards the latter part of the question, the number of cottages built in the calendar year 1932 was nil; six were built in the year 1933; 244 in the year 1934; 116 in the year 1935 and 33 in the year 1936. At the end of 1936 the Board of Health had 25 cottages in course of construction and tenders had been accepted for the erection of 13. Plans had also been approved for a new scheme for the erection of 125 cottages by the board.

Mr. Walsh

Arising out of the Minister's reply, we now learn that not one labourer's cottage was erected in the County Louth during the first ten years of native Government. A great record!

Mr. Morrissey

It is obvious enough from that.
