As regards the second part of the question, the average monthly number of persons in receipt of home assistance in the years 1929 and 1930 is not available in the Department. The statistics for these years were not compiled monthly. The number in receipt of home assistance at the 31st March, 1929, was 59,352, and at the 31st March, 1930, the number was 70,325.
