Written Answers. - Acquisition of Lands in Swinford (County Mayo).

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress has been made by the Irish Land Commission towards the acquisition of lands for the relief of congestion in Swinford area, East Mayo; and, further, if he will state (a) the names of landowners on whom notices of intention to proceed with acquisition proceedings have been served; (b) the progress made in each individual case, and (c) the total acreage involved.

The Land Commission propose to acquire by way of exchange an area of 263 acres in the townlands of Barleyhill and Cuillonaghton, and they have instituted proceedings for the acquisition of an area of 148 acres in the townlands of Collagh and Liscottle. They also propose to institute proceedings for an area of 49 acres in the townland of Bohola.

They have had inquiries made regarding an area of 25 acres in the townland of Rathslevin, and the question as to its suitability for their purposes is at present under consideration.

It is proposed to have inquiries made regarding an area of 16 acres in the townland of Toocananagh.

It is not the practice of the Land Commission to publish the names of landowners with whom they are in negotiation for purchase.
