Vol. 70 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat Experiments.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he has caused any experiments to be made with the new English variety of wheat known as D 80 and, if so, with what results (1) as to its suitability for cultivation in our climate; (2) as to its gluten content.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. The second part, therefore, does not arise.

Would the Minister take steps to have experiments carried out with this variety of wheat at the earliest possible moment, as it would appear from the reports of the British Ministry of Agriculture that this variety presents the highest cropping content consistent with resistance to our normal climate?

Yes, perhaps.

Then the Minister will take steps to have experiments on this variety of wheat carried out at the earliest possible moment?

Perhaps; if it is considered to be a good variety.

If the Minister will look into the matter that is all I want.
