Vol. 70 No. 9

Order of Business.

Business will be taken as on the Order Paper, items 1 to 10 inclusive, omitting items 3 and 4. Items 7 and 8 will be taken with item 9, and, in the Estimates, Vote No. 17 will be taken before Vote No. 20. Public business will be interrupted at 9 o'clock to take Private Deputies' business.

Is it proposed to make any observation now as to the taking of Private Deputies' business?

I have no observation to make. I understand that some arrangement has been made between the Whips, but what it is I do not know.

I understood that some arrangement was a-making, but I understand that it is of a character that would require the unanimous consent of the House before the Ceann Comhairle could receive it. If that is so, I suggest that the Chief Government Whip should state the arrangement now.

I thought it better to have this arranged outside the House.

I understand that the arrangement is of a character in respect of which the Ceann Comhairle would require to receive the consent of the whole House before he admitted it, and for that reason I think it should be mentioned now.

It has been communicated to the Chair. I understand that it is proposed to take No. 15 at 9 o'clock. That would take motions out of their order on the Paper. If there is no objection to the proposal, it will be given effect to.

Is it intended to take the Local Government group of Estimates this evening?

It is part of the business ordered for to-day.

I understood that the reason for not taking the Bill dealing with the purchase of labourers' cottages was the absence of the Minister.

I did not say that. I gave the reason to the Deputy, and I do not think it necessary to mention it again.

To what Deputy?

To Deputy Norton.

I am afraid the Parliamentary Secretary is suffering from mental aberration. I did not hear it.

I am sorry the Deputy did not hear it. The position is that the Minister will be able to take the Local Government Estimate, if it is reached, but he will not be able to take the Labourers Bill.

It is the first time I heard that.

I am sorry the Deputy was not listening.
