Vol. 70 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Taxation Charges.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the charges for quarterly and half-yearly licences for motor cars are excessive when compared with the full year charges; and if, seeing that a large number of motorists are unable to meet the cost of a full year's licence, he will reduce the quarterly and half-yearly charges to a more reasonable level so as to accommodate such persons as hackney car owners and lorry owners whose sole living is derived from driving their own vehicles.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. It is not proposed to reduce the charges on quarterly and part-yearly licences as these charges are not unreasonable, having regard to the concession entailed in granting licences quarterly or part-yearly.
