Vol. 70 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telegraphic Arrangements at Clonakilty.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that owing to the fact of no telegraph messenger being attached to Clonakilty Post Office, an arrangement obtains whereby business people and residents not connected with the telephone system have to depend upon casual messengers for the delivery of telegrams, resulting in serious delay and inconvenience; further, if he is aware of the amount of inconvenience caused by the removal of the telegraph sounding apparatus from the Clonakilty office, and if he intends to take any action in these matters.

The arrangements for the delivery of telegrams at Clonakilty have recently been under review and it has been decided to restore the position of boy messenger.

Telephone working was substituted for telegraph working some years ago, and the change has not given rise to any inconvenience so far as my Department is aware.
