Vol. 70 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of County Sligo Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he can state what progress has been made by the Land Commission in the acquisition of the lands of Annaghmore or Monasteraden, County Sligo, in the occupation of Martin and Anne Brennan.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he can state (a) the grounds upon which the Land Commission decided to take no action regarding the acquisition of the lands of Bunowla, Cashelboy, and Barnacoghill, County Sligo, formerly in the occupation of William G. Smith, and now rated in the name of James Brett; (b) whether he is aware that portion of these lands was recently purchased by a large landowner in a neighbouring parish; and (c) whether, in view of the amount of congestion in the locality, he will request the Land Commission to have the question of the acquisition of these lands reconsidered at an early date.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission, having regard to the information before them as to the manner in which these lands were being worked, decided that the case was not one for the exercise of their powers of compulsory acquisition. The Land Commission have no record of the purchase of portion of these lands by a large landowner, but inquiries will be made in the matter.
