Vol. 71 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Estate Duty Grants and Agricultural Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will have circulated in the Official Report in respect of (a) estate duty grants and (b) agricultural grants for each of the years ended February 16th, 1934, 1935, 1936 and 1937 (1) the amount chargeable to each country of the sum drawn from the Guarantee Fund in respect of purchasers' annuities in arrear, and (2) the amount credited to each county in respect of old arrears which have been recovered, as certified by the Land Commission.

Following is the reply:

Upon the clearance of the Guarantee Fund in February of each year, each county is debited with the arrears accrued up to the 31st January and credited with the amounts recovered in respect of arrears which had previously been met by draws upon the Guarantee Fund. It is only where the arrears in respect of current gales exceed repayments in respect of arrears accrued at previous gales that the country share in the Estate Duty Grant or Agricultural Grant is attached in the Fund. Where the repayments exceed the draws in respect of current gales, the Local Authority receives an amount equivalent to the excess inaddition to normal grants. The following Table shows the net position at February, 1934; February, 1935; February 1936 and February, 1937, apportioned as between Estate Duty Grant and Agricultural Grant.
