Written Answers. - Land Acquisition in Galway.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have instituted proceedings for the acquisition of the lands known as the Watson Estate, in the townland of Stowlin, Electoral Division of Kilquain, County Galway; and, if so, seeing the number of congested tenants in the district, he will state if the lands will be divided during the current year.

The Land Commission are having an inspection made of the lands of Stowlin on the Watson Estate with a view to ascertaining their suitability for Land Commission purposes but at the present stage of the proceedings it is not possible to state whether the lands will be acquired and divided during the current year.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps have been taken by the Land Commission to acquire the Johnstone Estate at Cartrondoogan, Fohenagh, County Galway, for distribition among the uneconomic holders and landless men of the district.

Proceedings have been instituted for the acquisition of the untenanted lands of Cartrondoogan on the Johnstone Estate, and the purchase price has been fixed, but posseesion has not yet been taken by the Land Commission. A scheme for the division of the lands will be prepared as expeditiously as possible.
