Vol. 71 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pensionable Service in the Post Office.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that certain officers of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs applied as far back as September, 1936, to have errors in the official records relating to the initial dates of their pensionable services corrected; and that up to the present no decision has been obtained from his Department, and that in consequence two officers who have since retired from the service cannot be granted their pensions; and whether he will see that a decision will be given without further delay.

Owing to the destruction of Post Office records in the fire of 1916 reconstruction of the particulars of service of the officers in question has presented considerable difficulty. A decision has, however, now been taken, and it has been found possible to authorise the grant of pensions to the two officers to whom, it is presumed, the Deputy refers.
