Vol. 71 No. 12

Committee on Finance. - Vote 69—Employment Schemes.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar £900,010 chun slánuithe na suime is gá chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1939, chun Scéimeanna chun Fostaíocht do chur ar fáil agus chun Fóirithin ar Chátar, maraon le costas riaracháin.

That a sum not exceeding £900,010 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1939, for Schemes for the Provision of Employment and the Relief of Distress, including cost of administration.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say how much he expects to spend out of this sum this year?

It is hoped to expend most of the money voted.

That was not done last year, nor the year before.

Within limitations. There was £600,000 from the previous year and £167,000 this year.

There has been a considerable sum left unexpended this year?

Yes, but whatever amount is voted by the Dáil in this year there is artificial provision made over and above in order to enable a larger number of schemes to be done. It is impossible in all the circumstances of the situation to expend the whole.

Vote put and agreed to.
