Vol. 73 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of (a) officers, (b) non-commissioned officers, and (c) privates, who died between the date of the establishment of the forces and the date of coming into operation of the Army Pensions Act, 1932, from causes other than wounds or illness acquired on and attributable to service prior to the establishment of the forces and whose widows or dependents have no pension or allowance under the Army Pensions Acts.

The number of persons who died while serving in the forces between the 1st October, 1924, and the 10th December, 1932, was:—

Officers

19

N.C.O.s

34

Privates

120

173

I am not in a position to state how many of them were married or had dependants, or how many of them died as a result of wounds or illness acquired on and attributable to service prior to the establishment of the forces. In the case of two non-commissioned officers and three privates who died as a result of injury, dependants received allowances.
