Vol. 73 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport Services.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether in view of the present deplorable state of the railway service of the country, the unsatisfactory transport service in Dublin, the demands for part-time employment and lower wages made on the workers, and the urgent need of reorganising the transport service generally, he is prepared to introduce proposals for legislation to bring the whole system of transport under public control.

I am not prepared to accept the implications involved in this question. As I indicated in reply to the Deputy's question 26th ultimo, the transport position generally is at present under examination in my Department, but I am not yet in a position to indicate what proposals for legislation, if any, it may be necessary to introduce.

Will the Minister give an undertaking that before coming to a decision he will not overlook the pronouncement he made on this subject in the House in the early part of 1929?

The Deputy may be satisfied that no relevant consideration will be overlooked.

"Relevant" is good.

Will the ten-year-old promise now be kept?
