Vol. 73 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sailors' and Soldiers' Land Trust.

asked the Taoiseach if he is aware that decrees for possession have been granted against widows of British ex-servicemen occupying houses under the Sailors' and Soldiers' Land Trust; and if he is prepared to introduce proposals for legislation to solve the difficulties which exist between the Land Trust and their tenants, and in particular to enable the trust to give security of tenure to widows of tenants.

I have no information as to whether decrees for possession have been granted as indicated in the Deputy's question.

Sympathetic consideration will be given to the question of introducing legislation to give effect to proposals for a solution of the difficulties referred to by the Deputy, provided that the Government is satisfied that substantial agreement in regard to such proposals has been reached between the various interests concerned. These interests I may add are already aware of the Government's attitude in the matter.
