Vol. 73 No. 6

Written Answers. - Provision of Economic Holdings in County Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that there are ten tenants on the Ward estate, in the townland of Kilscoghagh, Scardane, County Mayo, whose poor law valuations are under £3 each; that the Land Commission retained the farm of Gurtanieran adjoining Kilscoghagh for the purpose of providing economic holdings for those tenants in 1924; that the said farm was then let in grazing to a grazier who is still in possession; and if he will now state what steps, if any, are being taken to divide this farm and provide economic holdings for the tenants.

Mr. Boland

A notice of intention to resume portion of the holding of Mark Mellett in the townlands of Gortanieran and Kilscohagh on the Ward estate for the purpose of relieving congestion was published by the Land Commission, but a petition against resumption was presented by the tenant. The hearing of this petition has been deferred owing to difficulties of procedure arising out of a judicial decision concerning the powers of the Land Commission in regard to resumption. Provision for the settlement of these difficulties is under consideration.
