Vol. 73 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Irish Butter in London.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will give the name of the firm in London where he saw Irish (Empire) butter priced at 1/8 per lb., and if he is aware that stores in the West End of London were on the 14/11/36, and still are, selling Empire butter at 1/- per lb.

The Deputy evidently doubts my word, but I am afraid he must accept my assurance that what I said as to the price of Irish butter in London was a statement of fact.

In reply to the second part of the question, the price mentioned by the Deputy refers to secondary Empire butter, in which category Irish creamery butter is not included. If he will consult recent issues of The Grocer he will find that the retail price charged by stores in the West End of London for Irish creamery butter and first-class Empire butter has been and still is higher than the figure he mentions. In fact Irish butter was quoted on the 26th November at 1/6 per lb.
