Vol. 74 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ferry Services in Fanad Peninsula.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has yet taken under consideration the question of ferry services in the Fanad peninsula, and the recommendation of the Donegal Transport Committee for the investigation of the whole position regarding them, with special reference to the urgent question of public safety.

The position relative to the ferry services referred to in the question has been investigated in consultation with the Department of Local Government and Public Health. The Donegal Board of Health has prepared draft by-laws regulating, from the point of view of public safety, the operation of boats plying for hire within its area of jurisdiction. These by-laws are subject to approval by the Department of Local Government and Public Health. I understand that the board of health is still in correspondence with that Department regarding certain amendments required to be made in the draft, but it is anticipated that duly approved bye-laws will be made at an early date.

When will that happen? It is four years ago since the report was issued. Is the Minister aware of that?

I am more clearly aware of it than the Deputy.
