Vol. 74 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of Beet and Peat.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of the years 1936, 1937 and 1938 the quantities of (1) beet, and (2) peat carried respectively by (a) rail, (b) railway-owned lorries, (c) lorries owned by private persons, and (d) canal; and the amounts paid as freightage in each case.

The only information, in reference to the Deputy's question, available in my Department is that for the quantities of sugar beet booked on the Great Southern Railway system and the gross receipts therefrom. The figures under these heads for 1936 and 1937 were published on page 46 of the annual "Returns of Railway Companies, 1937." The figures for 1938 were 292,975 tons, and £94,481.
