Vol. 74 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Renovation of Labourers' Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that most of the rural labourers' cottages erected before 1922 in County Wexford are very badly in need of extensive renovation and that some of them are not fit for human habitation; that their condition has been repeatedly reported to the board of health without avail; and if he will have prepared and put in hands without delay a comprehensive scheme of cottage repair for the county.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply to his question of 11th May last to which I have nothing to add.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, I can give the Minister a list of hundreds of cottages in very bad repair which have been reported for the last five or six years and nothing has been done.

Does the Deputy say hundreds?

Hundreds, not one or two or 20.

My information from the local authority and the officials of the local authorities in charge is that there are practically no cottages urgently in need of repair.

Does the Minister wish that I should give him the list?

I would be delighted.
