asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of the insurance year 1937/38 the total number of contributions paid by (a) men; (b) women; (c) boys, and (d) girls, and the average number for that year paid by each group.

Exact statistics of unemployment insurance contributions paid are not available. The following figures are estimates:—

The averages shown are found by dividing the estimated numbers of contributions paid in the 12 months ended 30th September, 1938, by the respective numbers of persons insured (i.e., the total of unemployment insurance books exchanged and new books issued) during the insurance year 1937-38.
