Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar thar £10,580 chun slánuithe na suime is gá chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar oríoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1940, chun Costaisí Coinneáilsuas Geilteanna Cuirpthe i nGealtlainn Dúndroma (8 agus 9 Vict., c. 107).
That a sum not exceeding £10,580 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1940, for the Expenses of the Maintenance of Criminal Lunatics in the Dundrum Asylum (8 and 9 Vict., c. 107).
The cost of maintaining patients in Dundrum Asylum is relatively high, being approximately £147 per patient per annum, as compared with £47, which is the average cost in a district mental hospital. Dundrum, although called an asylum is, in fact, a prison for certain class of mentally deranged prisoners. The number of patients in residence is small, and the overhead charges per patient are much heavier than in establishments with a larger population. There are at present 107 patients—94 males and 13 females—in the institution. The proportion of dangerous patients is much larger than in the district mental hospitals, and a proportionately larger staff is, therefore, necessary.
