Vol. 75 No. 20

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Teaching of Irish.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of complaints that have recently arisen from different sources, including from persons enthusiastic in the language cause, it is his intention to institute an inquiry into the operation and results of the present policy concerning the teaching of Irish.

I am not aware that the complaints to which the Deputy refers have recently arisen, unless the word "recently" covers a period of 15 years or longer; the persons who make these complaints almost invariably claim to be "enthusiastic in the language cause," but the evidence of their enthusiasm is not usually abundant or convincing. I do not consider that the complaints mentioned afford sufficient reason for instituting the enquiry suggested.

An doigh leis an Aire go bhfuil sé ag dul chun chinn go maith?

Tá sé, buidheachas le Dia.
