Vol. 76 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repairs to Limerick Bridge and Embankment.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will instruct the Board of Works engineering inspectors to make an inspection of (1) Plassy Bridge, joining Limerick and Clare; and (2) the canal bank on the Shannon from Plassy Bridge to Canal Harbour at Limerick, with a view to having much-needed repairs carried out.

Although Plassy Bridge and the canal bank, Limerick, are no longer used for Shannon navigation purposes, they are kept under constant observation by the navigation staff at Limerick. As an engineer from headquarters made, in the ordinary course of duty, an inspection of the bridge and banks on the 23rd of June last and reported that the banks referred to are in fair condition and that the bridge is not in present need of repairs to make it safe for pedestrian traffic, the necessity for a further inspection does not at present arise.
