Vol. 76 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cahirciveen Water Supply.

Mr. Flynn

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what is the present position in regard to the comparative failure of the Cahirciveen water supply; what steps are being taken in conjunction with the Kerry Board of Health to remedy matters; and whether in view of the seriousness of the position as regards the health of the people of the town and the hardship caused, he will hasten the provision of a proper water supply.

Following upon the representations received from the Deputy at the beginning of last month in regard to the inadequacy of the Cahirciveen water supply, the Kerry Board of Health, whose duty it is to provide a pure and adequate supply for the town, were asked to obtain a report from their Engineer on the present position of the supply. It appears that the board had the matter under consideration at their meeting on the 22nd ultimo and that the adequacy of the supply is being investigated by officials of the board.

Arising out of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply, is he aware that there is a large number of small towns in the same condition as Cahirciveen, and that he should take some steps to remedy the matter where the local authority fails to do so?
