Vol. 77 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he has received a resolution from the inhabitants of the townland of Tullibards Great, Bridgetown, County Wexford, regarding a report received by him from the County Wexford Board of Health and Public Assistance with reference to the question of a public water supply for the townland of Tullibards Great; and whether he proposes to take any action in the matter.

The answer to the first portion of the question is in the affirmative. The reports received will be forwarded to the board of health. The Deputy is aware of the recent decision of the board when the matter was under consideration by them.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that for some people in County Wexford the nearest spring well is one mile and that is a private pump? During bad weather in past years the people had to drink rain water that fell from the roofs. Surely the Parliamentary Secretary is not going to allow that state of affairs to continue. I am sure, as a medical man, he knows that that is not good for young children and there, are a Rood many young children in the district.

Representations in the matter were only received in the Department on the 9th October. They have been forwarded to the board of health for their consideration and the Deputy will agree that it is a matter for the board of health, in the first instance, at any rate.

When the board of health will not take any action should not the Minister for Local Government do something in the matter?

If the board of health will not take action, we will have to do so.
