Vol. 77 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - London Conference.

Mr. Brennan

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state whether his attention has been drawn to a statement made in the Press that the representative of the Union of South Africa at the London Conference of Commonwealth Ministers will endeavour to make arrangements for the disposal of South Africa's agricultural produce, and if he will state whether the Government of Éire has been invited to send a representative to the conference and, also, the objects of the conference.

I have seen the Press report referred to by the Deputy. According to an official statement in the British House of Commons the object of the conference is to co-ordinate the war effort of the States concerned. The question of an invitation to the Irish Government did not arise.
