Vol. 77 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Production of Oats and Barley.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will take steps to emphasise the importance of growing adequate quantities of oats and barley lest the guaranteed price for wheat should evoke excessive changeover from these cereal crops to the cash crop of wheat.

In my recent broadcast talk on the necessity for increased agricultural production, I emphasised that increased output, not only of wheat, but also of other crops, including oats, barley, potatoes and roots, is essential. Every opportunity will be taken to impress this necessity upon the farmers.
