Vol. 77 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Potash from Kelp.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether the Industrial Research Council have been consulted about the possibility of getting supplies of potash from kelp; and, if so, with what result.

The question of the use of kelp as a source of potash has been under consideration by the Industrial Research Council and Government Departments concerned. It is doubtful, however, whether, even in existing circumstances, kelp can be economically utilised to any great extent for the production of a potassic fertiliser.
