Vol. 77 No. 5

Fire Brigades Bill, 1939—First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill "entitled an Act to require sanitary authorities to make provision for the extinguishing of fires occurring in their sanitary district and for the protection and rescue of persons and property from injury by such fires and to provide for divers matters ancillary to or connected with the matters aforesaid."—(Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Local Government and Public Health) (Dr. Ward).
Bill read the First Time.

Arising out of this Bill I should like to call attention to the fact that the putting out of fires presumes that supplies of hose are available and no one has heard that hose will be available for some time. In the interval between now and November 8th perhaps the Parliamentary Secretary will take the point into consideration.

That is not relevant on the First Stage.

Second Stage ordered for November 8th.
