Vol. 77 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Housing Programme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the total estimated number of (1) new houses, and (2) flats, over and above those already completed, required by the Dublin Corporation to complete their housing programme for the replacement of unsuitable housing and relief of over-crowding.

The most recent estimate prepared by the Corporation of Dublin of the number of new dwellings required to be provided in the City is approximately 20,000.

It is not possible at present to segregate this estimate as between cottages and flats.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the total number of (1) new houses, and (2) flats, sanctioned for erection in the County Borough of Dublin which are (a) in process of completion, and (b) awaiting commencement.

The reply is as follows:— (a) In process of completion—667 houses. 446 flats; (b) awaiting commencement, 501 houses.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the total number of (1) houses, and (2) flats, in the County Borough of Dublin for the erection of which sanction has been applied for, but has not yet been given.

The corporation have on hand proposals for upwards of 7,000 additional dwellings. They are in various stages of advancement. Amongst that number is 941 flats, fully planned and ready for tendering, bat which were not placed at tender owing to the high prevailing cost of building flat dwellings. Only in the case of 62 houses for which tenders had actually been received has sanction been withheld on the ground of excessive cost.
