Vol. 77 No. 7

Written Answers. - Inspection of Offaly Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the total acreage of untenanted land already inspected within a two-mile radius of the village of Shinrone, County Offaly; the acreage of same under tillage; what acreage it has been decided to acquire for division amongst uneconomic holders, cottage tenants, and landless men; and when a division scheme making provision for the needs of such persons is likely to be put into operation.

It is not possible to state the area of land inspected by the Land Commission ever since 1923 in the neighbourhood of Shinrone. The Deputy, however, is probably concerned as to the acreage in this locality which has been inspected during recent years and in respect of which acquisition proceedings for all or part have not so far been instituted. There are some 1,000 acres in which the Land Commission have had reports by their inspectors which can be regarded as of current interest. At present it is not possible to state with regard to any of these lands whether or when they will be acquired and divided, and the Land Commission are not aware of the area thereof under tillage this year.
