Vol. 77 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Collection of Private Wireless Transmitters.

asked the Minister for the Co-ordination of Defensive Measures whether private transmitters, for which licences were issued, have been seized without notice or reason stated; whether he will state the grounds on which such seizures were made; and whether the licence fee for the unexpired portion of the year will be refunded and the persons concerned compensated for the loss of their property.

On the outbreak of the emergency it was essential as a precautionary measure that all private wireless transmitting should cease. Licences were, therefore, revoked in accordance with the licence regulations and it was necessary for the apparatus to be collected by the Gárda Síochána for safe custody. It is intended that the apparatus should be returned to owners when conditions permit and the question of compensation does not arise in the meantime. The question of refundment of licence fees in respect of unexpired licence periods is under consideration.
