Vol. 80 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of County Cork Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether it is now proposed to acquire for forestry purposes the lands in the possession of the Kingston family at Goulacullen, Dunmanway.

The lands at Goulacullen offered for sale for State forestry purposes by Mr. Kingston have been inspected several times and found to be in the main quite unsuitable for the purpose, the plantable portions being small in extent and in detached patches. In the event, however, of other suitable lands being acquired in the district, the Department will reconsider the possibility of taking over such portions of Mr. Kingston's land as could then be economically administered.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the reasons for the decision of the Land Commission to take no further action to acquire the lands of Knocknacurra, Bandon, on the estate of Miss Julia Keohane (Record No. S.8144); and if he will have this decision reconsidered.

The Land Commission do not state their reasons for declining to acquire land. All relevant circumstances and legal requirements are taken into account. In the particular case referred to by the Deputy the price offered by the Land Commission was increased on appeal and having regard to the increased price and to the other circumstances of the case, the Land Commission decided not to continue with their acquisition proceedings.
