Vol. 80 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Home Assistance.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the amount by which the weekly expenditure on home assistance in the case of each board of health and public assistance (or each board of public assistance, as the case may be) has been increased by reason of the fact that a considerable number of men deprived of unemployment assistance under the Unemployment Assistance (Third Employment Period) Order are now receiving home assistance.

I have no information as to the extent, if any, by which expenditure on home assistance is affected by the operation of the order referred to by the Deputy.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary be surprised to hear that in Wexford home assistance grants are costing between £20 and £30 a week additional since the order was made?

I would be surprised to hear that.

The Parliamentary Secretary need not be surprised to hear it. It is the truth.
