Vol. 80 No. 16

Written Answer. - Pension for Volunteer's Dependents.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that Seán O'Sullivan, a native of Bere Island, County Cork, who took part under the late Commandant E. Daly in the Easter Week Rising, died in California, U.S.A., about four years ago, before his claim to a service pension was decided, that his wife died recently, that his four young children are mainly unprovided for, and if he will take some steps to provide some State allowance or dependents' pensions for them.

The latest date for receiving applications for children's allowances under the Army Pensions Acts, 1923-1937, has expired.

The Military Service Pensions Acts do not provide for the grant of pensions to the dependents of deceased applicants. In the event, however, of the referee reporting favourably on the late Mr. O'Sullivan's application under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, any arrears of pension accuring as a result thereof from 1st October, 1934, to date of death, will be payable to his legal personal representatives.
