Vol. 81 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Rotherham estate at Ballinlough, Kells, County Meath, from which many people were formerly evicted, is about to be sold, and if he will take immediate steps to acquire this estate, and see that it is divided amongst such of the descendants of those evicted tenants as reside in the area.

The question appears to refer to the lands of Patrickstown and Belview held by the representatives of Mary C. Rotherham (deceased). The Land Commission have no proceedings pending for the acquisition of these lands and, owing to the emergency conditions obtaining, they do not propose to take any action in the matter at present.

Is the Minister prepared to allow this land to be sold, which I believe is to be done in the near future? If that is done, I believe there will be trouble in this area.
