Vol. 81 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Demonstration Farms.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is prepared to acquire and operate in each county a number of farms of various sizes for the purpose of demonstrating the most efficient and profitable methods of farming.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to a similar question by Deputy McGovern on 15th May, 1934, in which it was stated, in regard to the suggestion that the State should acquire and run farms in various parts of the country for demonstration purposes, that the adoption of this suggestion was considered undesirable. There is no reason to alter the views contained in that reply.

May I ask the Minister how he expects farmers to accept the advice or instructions of a Department which refuses to put this advice and these instructions into effect and thereby demonstrate whether they are correct or otherwise?

Mr. Morrissey

The Department is costing enough already.
