Vol. 82 No. 7

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pig Production.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will give consideration to some scheme whereby pig production will not disappear during the spring and summer months owing to the short supply and high cost of cereal food.

In view of the fact that the stocks of cereals held in the country cannot, in the absence of imports, be augmented prior to harvest pig producers will have to depend on either the produce of their own farms or such supplies of feeding stuffs as they can purchase. As it is important to have young pigs available when the produce of next harvest is ready, it is hoped that producers will make every effort to maintain their breeding stocks during the present emergency.
