Vol. 82 No. 7

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Dublin Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is the intention of the Land Commission to divide the remainder of the McCarthy estate (Leonards) Lissonhall, Swords, and the remainder of the Thunder estate (Eyre Coote), Rowlestown, County Dublin, amongst people from other counties, and if he is prepared to have those schemes reconsidered with a view to the division of those lands amongst local, deserving, landless men and uneconomic holders.

In accordance with their practice of considering the claims of suitable local applicants before allotting untenanted lands to migrants, the Land Commission have allotted to such applicants over one-third of the McCarthy Estate and over two-thirds of the Thunder Estate. Schemes for the division of the balance of these Estates have not yet been settled, but it is probable that most of such balance will be utilised for migrants whose lands are needed for the relief of congestion elsewhere. I see no reason to interfere with the intentions of the Land Commission in this respect.
