Vol. 82 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether the Government have recently carried out any inquiry into the general conditions of families in Dublin City who are dependent entirely on unemployment assistance, and, if so, if he will state whether he proposes to make any report to the House on the matter, and whether it is proposed to increase the present unemployment assistance allowances paid in the case of married persons with families in the Dublin registration area and, if not, if he will state what other steps it is intended to take to assist them; and if the Government have not caused any inquiry to be made into the conditions of such families, whether he will cause such inquiry to be made immediately.

The matters raised by the Deputy in this question are under consideration. I am at present unable to make a statement on the subject, but hope to do so at an early date.
