Vol. 82 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission has acquired the estate of Mrs. Eileen Hamilton in Meenalaught, County Donegal, Record No. S.5575; and, if so, whether the claim of James George Kelly for reinstatement on the holding from which his father was evicted will receive preferential treatment as provided for evicted tenants and their families in the land code.

The Land Commission have not acquired the lands of Meenalaught on the Hamilton estate, and, owing to the emergency conditions now obtaining, they are not prepared to take any action at present regarding their acquisition.

If and when the lands are acquired the application of James George Kelly for reinstatement will receive consideration.

I take it there will be the preferential consideration to which the evicted tenant's descendant is entitled?

Yes, except that the holding is a very poor and uneconomic one, and normally would not be recommended.

So long as the evicted tenant will not be forgotten, that is all I am concerned with.

He will not be forgotten.
