Vol. 83 No. 10

Committee on Finance. - Vote 23—Ordnance Survey.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar £23,598 chun slánuithe na suime is gá chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1942, chun Tuarastail agus Costaisí na Suirbháireachta Ordonáis agus Mion-tSeirbhísí ar a n-áirmhítear Macsanmhla de Láimhscríbhinní Seanda da dhéanamh.

That a sum, not exceeding £23,598, be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charges which will come in course of payment during the year ending the 31st day of March, 1942, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Ordnance Survey and of Minor Services, including the Facsimile Reproduction of Ancient Manuscripts.

There is a small increase in this Vote of £1,439, due largely to the purchase of new machinery for printing and a certain fall anticipated in the sale of maps during the present emergency.

What progress has been made to bring the Ordnance Survey maps up to date, and what is the oldest map, even of the Dublin area, which is official?

The Deputy would not expect me to answer that question without notice. I will give him the information later.

The Local Defence Force had difficulty recently in getting Ordnance Survey maps. Can the Parliamentary Secretary say if that difficulty has been overcome?

My attention has not been called to that, but I will look into it.

Vote agreed to.
